How to connect AstroCodex to ChatGPT
Follow these steps to add your personal astrologer to the AI assistant. Takes under 5 minutes.
- 1Use ChatGPT on the web with a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu plan — full MCP connectors are not available on Free or in the mobile apps.
- 2Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and turn on "Developer mode" (full MCP client).
- 3Back in Apps & Connectors, click "Create" / "New connector", name it "AstroCodex" and paste the MCP server URL: https://api.astrocodex.ai/api/v1/mcp
- 4Set Authentication to "OAuth" and click Create/Connect — ChatGPT opens an AstroCodex sign-in page; log in and approve access to your charts. No API key to paste.
- 5Start a new chat, enable the AstroCodex connector from the "+" / connectors menu, and ask "list my charts" — ChatGPT calls the AstroCodex tools.

ChatGPT's Developer mode is a full MCP client (read + write) for remote HTTPS servers only, and it authenticates over OAuth — so there is no API key or config file to manage, you just authorize AstroCodex like any other connector. Note: this is NOT the same as a Custom GPT "Action" (Actions take an OpenAPI schema and cannot consume an MCP endpoint). Free ChatGPT and the iOS/Android apps do not expose custom connectors.

What plan do I need?
Any paid AstroCodex plan that includes the Account API. Check the subscription page for current plan details. The free tier gives access to the calculation engine but not to your saved charts via MCP.
Is my birth data safe?
Yes. The AI assistant receives only the computed astrological results — planet positions, technique output, chart summaries. Raw birth data (date, time, location) stays on AstroCodex servers and is never transmitted to the AI.
What is the MCP protocol?
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard introduced by Anthropic that lets AI assistants call external tools securely during a conversation. AstroCodex implements MCP natively at the Account API endpoint.
Can I use my own charts or create new ones?
Both. The AI can list and read your existing saved charts, and it can create new charts for any person, date, time and location via the create_chart tool — useful for on-the-fly consultations.
Which astrological traditions are supported?
Vedic (sidereal), Western (tropical) and Hellenistic. The traditions are strictly separate — the AI cannot accidentally mix sidereal and tropical calculations.
